What is Geography?
Geography is the study of earth across space. Not space as in outer-space. But space, as in a large area. Earth.
This space is not empty. It is made up environmental forces, such as mountains, volcanoes, hurricanes, deserts. This space also contains an awesomely large and diverse ecosystem. And within this space, there are 7+ billion people that are going about the business of living.
Geography is not only about studying this space, but also about asking why. Why does anything happen on earth, and why does it matter to us, the 7 billion people that live here? Geographers want to know. We ask questions. We want to understand.
As a Geography student, you need to be ready to ask WHY, and be ready to THINK!
How are we going to study this great big world we live in? We will begin by studying earth's physical processes, and climate. We will then take a look at the human landscape- culture, population, political systems, these are just a few of the topics! We will then put physical and human geography together to study the earth's formal regions, every where from the Americas to Australia.
I look forward to meeting you, and having a fun, challenging, and successful year as we become Geographers.
Welcome to Lehman, Class of 2021!
